Established in 2015, by Scottish luthier Ian Dickinson, the workshop opened its doors on Argyle Street in Glasgows west end and quickly gained a reputation for quality repair work and fine hand crafted instruments. After 7 years it was time for a change and in spring of 2022 work began on a new workshop in the southside of Glasgow and was completed in August that year.
This new workshop is shared with Isaac kahir (Cranmer Guitars) where we run our seperate building and fixing businesses.
Ian Dickinson
I studied guitar making under master luthiers William C Kelday, Paul Hyland and Michael Ritchie on the musical instrument making course at Anniesland College from 2005 until 2007. In 2021 i was asked to apply for a lecturing position on the same course and is it my great honour to now be part of the lecturing team at the college.
The following years were spent repairing and restoring instruments for various shops, studio and private customers whilst working as head technician for major Scottish based guitar manufacturer; this experience allowed me to start my own business and quickly gain loyal customers and a strong reputation.
The new workshop will see me focus on building more but i will still be doing plenty or repairs and if i have been looking after your guitars for a while then that will remain the same.
Isaac Kahir - Cranmer Guitars
In 2010, when I was 14 years old, I decided that I wanted to make my own guitar. With nothing more than a saw, some blunt chisels and a block plane, I fashioned a revolving, double-necked guitar from an old desk and two old instruments.
Fast forward to 2018, and I had just completed four years of studies from Anniesland and Newark colleges, where I graduated with distinction and attained an award for ‘Creativity and Design.’
Today, my work focuses mainly on high-end archtop guitars and experimental instruments, which feature on my YouTube channel.
